Skipjack, Sails Up, with Display Case

Skipjack, Sails Up, with Display Case

Description:  Skipjacks (official Maryland State Boat) are used for oyster dredging and this seafood harvesting activity peaked in 1884 with a total Chesapeake Bay harvest of 15 million bushels. Due to over-harvesting, disease and loss of oyster habitat, the annual harvest has plummeted to less than 200,000 bushels. Oyster dredging season runs from October through March but you can have this splendid Skipjack model on display all year long! Model and display case are wooden construction, hand-built, fully assembled, with lots of attention to detail.

Features:  Two sails (mainsail and jib), blocks and rigging, wooden mast hoops, bowsprit and decorative trailboards, anchor windlass, two anchors with chain, dredge winder, dredge rollers, water barrel, captain’s wheel, aft cabin, deck houses, varnished steering box and hatches, centerboard, rudder and push boat (yawl boat) with varnished engine box, on black davits. Skipjack is securely attached to two brass pedestals in beautiful mahogany finish display case. Acrylic panels (including top panel) keep out dust and unwanted fingers. Velvet material on case bottom prevents furniture scratching.
